Our process
How a Living Colour job works
Six clear steps from your first call to the final walk-through. You’ll always know what’s happening, who’s on site and what comes next.
- 1
Get in touch
Call us on 021 266 8689, email us or use the quote form. A few photos and a rough idea of what you want done are a great start. If you’re working to a deadline, like a settlement date or lease end, tell us up front.
- 2
Site visit and detailed quote
The owner visits to look at the surfaces, measure up and talk through what you’re after. You then get a written, itemised quote covering the prep, repairs, products, number of coats and an honest timeframe.
- Free and no obligation
- Scaffolding, access and extras shown clearly
- Easy to compare with other quotes
- 3
Colour help
Not sure about colours? We can arrange a colour specialist to help you choose. We’ll also talk you through finishes, such as low-sheen walls, semi-gloss trim or dark stains for cedar, so you know how each will look and wear.
- 4
Prep and protect
On day one we protect what matters: floors, furniture, gardens, paths and windows. Then the real work starts. We wash, scrape, sand, fill, repair and prime until the surface is sound. The owner checks the prep before topcoats go on.
- 5
Paint
Quality Resene or Dulux paint, applied in the right conditions with clean cut-ins and even coverage. Throughout the job you’ll get updates on progress and timing, with photos if you’re not around.
- 6
Walk-through and tidy up
Before we call it done, we walk through the job with you and fix anything that isn’t right. Then we remove our gear and rubbish and leave the place clean and tidy.
What to expect
The practical bits
A few things that help a job run smoothly, whether we’re painting your lounge or a two-storey exterior.
Our weather policy
We never paint exteriors in the rain, on wet surfaces or when it’s too cold for paint to cure. If the forecast turns, we’ll let you know early, switch to prep or interior work where possible, and adjust the timeline with you.
Photos while you’re away
Can’t be there? No problem. Anna in Takapuna had moved to another city while we painted her two-storey home, and we sent ongoing photos of the progress so she could see every stage.
Hours and access
We work Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. We’ll agree start times, parking, access and whether you need to be home before the job begins.
Other trades, sorted
If the job needs scaffolding, cleaners or a colour specialist, we organise and manage them, so you only deal with us.
No surprise costs
If we find something unexpected, like rot behind a board, we show you and agree the cost before doing extra work.
Living with the work
For interiors we plan rooms in an order that keeps your home usable, and use low-odour paints for most indoor work.
In a customer’s words
