Exterior painting

Exterior painting built for Auckland weather

Weatherboard, cedar, monoclad, roughcast, stucco and block, prepped properly and painted to protect your home from sun, wind and rain.

Outside your home

Protection first, then a finish you’ll love

Your exterior paint is the main thing standing between your house and the weather. Auckland throws a lot at it: strong UV, humidity, salty air near the coast and plenty of rain.

That’s why most of the work on an exterior happens before the topcoat. We wash down, scrape back loose and flaking paint, sand, fill, replace failed sealant and prime bare areas. Then we apply quality Resene or Dulux exterior paint suited to your cladding and how exposed the house is.

Cladding we work with

  • Timber weatherboard
  • Cedar (paint or stain)
  • Monoclad and plaster systems
  • Roughcast and stucco
  • Concrete and cinder block
  • Fences, decks and handrails

Two-storey homes and scaffolding

Higher work needs safe access. The owner is EWP (elevating work platform) and working-at-heights certified, and on larger exteriors we organise and manage the scaffolders for you. Suzanne in Albany put it simply: Andy “project managed scaffolders, cleaners, his painters”, so she didn’t have to.

After: 1912 kauri villa in scaffold with faded sage weatherboards, then finished in soft duck-egg blue with crisp white trim and fretwork
Before: 1912 kauri villa in scaffold with faded sage weatherboards, then finished in soft duck-egg blue with crisp white trim and fretwork
Before & after: 1912 kauri villaDrag the handle to compare. Scaffold up and tired paint, then the finished white villa.

Rain and the weather

We don’t paint outside in the rain or on wet surfaces, because the finish won’t last. We plan around the forecast, keep you updated if days move, and use any wet days for prep or interior work where we can.

Our exterior process

What happens on site

  • Site visit and quote. We check every elevation, note repairs and access, and itemise the lot.
  • Set-up. Scaffold or access arranged, gardens and paths covered.
  • Prep. Wash, scrape, sand, fill, seal and prime. This is where a lasting job is won.
  • Paint. Topcoats applied in the right conditions, elevation by elevation.
  • Walk-around. We check the finish with you and leave the site clean.

Homeowners on their exteriors

Andy and his team did an amazing job painting our house. They took our job at short notice and got it done in record time even working on a Saturday. The quality of the work was excellent and communication was great.

Exterior FAQs

Common exterior questions

More answers on the FAQ page.

Does the quote include scaffolding?

If your house needs scaffolding, we’ll say so at the site visit and show it clearly in the quote. We organise and manage the scaffolders so you deal with one person.

Do I need to be home while you paint the outside?

No. Many customers are at work, and some live in another city. We’ll agree access up front and send progress photos so you can see how it’s going.

Can you repair rotten boards before painting?

We can handle minor timber and plaster repairs as part of the prep. If we find something larger, we’ll show you and talk through options before going further.

When is the best time of year to paint an exterior?

Late spring through to autumn usually gives the most reliable drying weather in Auckland, so those months book up first. We can paint outside in other months when conditions allow. Get in touch early to secure a spot.
