Prep & repairs
Surface prep and repairs, the part that makes paint last
We paint. We repair. Good paint only performs on a sound, clean surface, so we put the time into getting it right before the topcoat goes on.
The “we repair” half
Why prep matters more than paint
Most paint failures (peeling, cracking, bubbling or stains bleeding through) come down to the surface underneath, not the paint itself. Skip the prep and even the best paint won’t last.
So every quote we write spells out the preparation in plain English. You’ll see what we’re filling, sanding, sealing and priming, and why. It’s one reason our quotes aren’t always the cheapest, and one reason customers are glad they went with us.
Preparation we carry out
- Waterblasting and washing down
- Mould and mildew treatment
- Scraping loose and flaking paint
- Sanding and feathering edges
- Filling holes, cracks and gaps
- Sealing and re-caulking joints
- Spot-priming bare timber and metal
- Stain-blocking undercoats
Repairs before we paint
We handle minor timber and plaster repairs as part of the job: patching dented or cracked plasterboard, filling damaged weatherboards, and fixing the small things that would otherwise show through a fresh coat. If we uncover something bigger, we’ll stop, show you, and talk it through before going any further.
Tiling, waterproofing and maintenance
We also offer floor and wall tiling, waterproofing, and general handyman and maintenance work. It’s handy when you’re refreshing a bathroom or getting a rental ready, because one team can look after the lot.

Our standard
Checked before it’s painted
The owner checks the prep before topcoats go on. It’s the stage nobody sees once the job is finished, which is exactly why we take it seriously.
- Surfaces clean, dry and sound
- Filler sanded flush so it disappears under paint
- Bare spots primed with the right product
- Edges and joints sealed against moisture
“The painters were diligent, polite and proud of their work which Andy checked.” Suzanne, Albany
Prep FAQs
Questions about prep
Is preparation included in the price?
Yes. Prep is part of every painting quote and is itemised, so you can see what’s being done. There are no hidden extras for “surprise” prep later.
What if you find rot or damage once you start?
We’ll stop and show you, explain the options and agree any extra cost with you before doing more. Nothing gets added without your OK.
Can you do repairs without painting?
Yes. We take on maintenance, repairs, tiling and waterproofing as standalone jobs too. Get in touch with a description or a few photos.
Free, no-obligation quotes
Ready for a finish you’ll be proud of?
